Terms of Service

Last updated: August 2026 · Governed by the laws of England and Wales

1. About Bench Hour

Bench Hour is an educational service provided by Dental Apptitude (“we”, “us”, “our”) for UK dental technicians and clinical dental technicians. It provides structured CPD learning, knowledge checks, reflection tools, certificates and records of completed learning.

Bench Hour is independent of the General Dental Council (GDC). The GDC does not approve individual CPD providers or courses. Bench Hour modules are designed with the GDC requirements for verifiable CPD in mind, but users remain responsible for ensuring that their CPD is relevant to their field or fields of practice and meets the requirements applicable to their registration.

Bench Hour is not a GDC service and does not submit CPD declarations to the GDC on your behalf.

2. Your Account

You must provide accurate information when creating your account and keep your information reasonably up to date.

Bench Hour accounts are intended for use by the individual registrant to whom the account belongs. You must not allow another person to complete CPD activities, knowledge checks or reflections in your name, or share your account credentials with another person.

You are responsible for keeping access to your account secure and for activity carried out through your account.

3. CPD and Certificates

Bench Hour provides educational content and records of completed activities. Completion of a Bench Hour module does not by itself guarantee that you have satisfied all of your GDC CPD requirements.

The GDC currently requires dental technicians to complete a minimum of 50 hours of verifiable CPD during each five-year cycle and clinical dental technicians to complete a minimum of 75 hours during each five-year cycle. The GDC also requires at least 10 hours of CPD in every two-year period, subject to its applicable rules and exceptions.

Bench Hour may contribute towards these requirements, but your overall CPD must reflect your own learning needs and relevant field or fields of practice.

If you are registered under more than one professional title, you remain responsible for meeting the requirements that apply to those titles.

Certificates and portfolio records provided by Bench Hour are evidence of the relevant Bench Hour activity. You must not alter, reproduce or present a certificate in a misleading way.

4. Your CPD Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining your CPD record, completing your annual CPD statement through MyGDC where required, and ensuring that information submitted to the GDC is complete and accurate.

You are also responsible for ensuring that any reflection or other personal statement you submit through Bench Hour accurately represents your own learning and experience.

Bench Hour does not make CPD declarations to the GDC on your behalf and cannot guarantee the outcome of any GDC audit or regulatory decision.

5. Subscriptions and Billing

Bench Hour may be offered through monthly or annual subscription plans. The price, billing frequency and features of the plan will be shown before you complete your purchase.

Subscription payments are processed by our payment provider, Stripe. We do not store your full payment card details on Bench Hour's servers.

Unless otherwise stated, subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each billing period until cancelled.

6. Cancellation and Renewal

You can cancel a recurring subscription at any time through the available billing controls or by contacting us.

Cancelling a subscription prevents future renewals. Unless otherwise stated, you will normally retain access until the end of the billing period that you have already paid for.

Cancellation does not normally remove CPD records or certificates that you have already earned.

Nothing in these Terms affects any statutory rights you may have as a consumer, including rights under applicable consumer protection legislation.

7. Digital Content and Immediate Access

Bench Hour provides digital educational content and online services. Where you request access immediately after purchasing a subscription, you may be asked to expressly request that the digital service begins during the statutory cancellation period and acknowledge the effect this may have on your cancellation rights.

Any cancellation rights relating to digital content or digital services will be handled in accordance with applicable UK consumer law.

8. Refunds

Where you have a statutory right to a refund, we will provide the refund required by law.

Where no statutory refund right applies, refunds are considered in accordance with the circumstances of the purchase and the terms of the applicable subscription.

9. Intellectual Property

All Bench Hour educational materials, including text, graphics, illustrations, question banks, learning materials, certificate designs and software, are owned by or licensed to Dental Apptitude.

Your subscription gives you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to access and use Bench Hour for your own professional development during your subscription.

You must not copy, reproduce, scrape, redistribute, publish, resell or commercially exploit Bench Hour content without our written permission.

10. Educational Information

Bench Hour is an educational resource. It is not a substitute for professional judgement, manufacturer instructions, legislation, GDC standards, clinical guidance or other applicable professional requirements.

We aim to keep our educational material accurate and current. However, professional guidance, standards, materials, techniques and regulatory requirements may change. You remain responsible for applying appropriate professional judgement and checking current requirements where necessary.

11. Service Availability

We aim to keep Bench Hour available and reliable, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free access.

We may temporarily suspend or modify the service for maintenance, security, technical reasons or other legitimate operational purposes.

12. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability where doing so would be unlawful, including liability for fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or rights that cannot legally be excluded or limited.

Subject to the above, we are not responsible for losses arising from your professional decisions, your failure to meet your own regulatory obligations, or decisions made by a third party, including the GDC.

If you are a consumer, nothing in these Terms limits your statutory rights relating to the quality, description or performance of digital content or services.

13. Changes to Bench Hour

We may update, improve or change parts of Bench Hour from time to time. Where a change materially affects an existing paid subscription, we will provide reasonable notice where appropriate and comply with any applicable legal requirements.

14. Suspension or Termination

We may suspend or terminate an account where reasonably necessary, including where there has been fraud, misuse of the service, unauthorised sharing of an account, infringement of our intellectual property rights, or serious breach of these Terms.

Where appropriate, we will provide notice and an opportunity to resolve the issue before terminating an account. This does not apply where immediate action is reasonably necessary for security, fraud prevention or other legitimate reasons.

15. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the law of England and Wales.

If you are a consumer, this does not remove any mandatory rights or protections available to you under the law of the part of the United Kingdom in which you live.
